Want More Influence? Tune In To Your Personality Style

Listening ear trumpet

Are you a bold person?

Are you outgoing?

Does everyone in the room know you’re there when you show up?

Or…

Are you more reserved?

Do you like to get the lay of the land?

Are you a person who prefers to hold your cards close to the vest?

I promise these aren’t trick questions…there are no right or wrong answers.

Guess which type of person I am.

That’s right…I’m a bold, passionate person!

I love big experiences and meeting new people and pouring TONS of energy into everything I do.

It makes sense that I’ve spent my life around big equipment like dump trucks and bulldozers…and I’ve been known to race four-wheelers and fly helicopters for fun.

Energy and drive has always been a part of who I am…it’s in my DNA.

I owe a lot of my success to my personality. My desire to “get the job done no matter what” has always helped me deliver exceptional results for my customers.

But I’ve learned there are some consequences to having a hard-driving personality like mine.

Sometimes relationships can get hurt while I’m trying to “get the job done no matter what.”

I’ve had to really learn to understand my personality…the good and the bad…and learn how to dial down my “success at any cost” mindset to become the best all-around leader possible.

I’ve been studying personality and communication styles for a long time now.

I study those things because leadership is all about people.

Leadership is all about having the most genuine, most effective influence with people.

You know what I’ve learned from studying personality and communication styles?

Here it is: knowing your personality and communication style and the style of the people around you is one of the best things you can do for your leadership.

Discovering your own style can make a big difference in the way you think, feel and act. And it can happen fast!

It can feel like putting glasses on blurry eyes for the first time…all of a sudden you see things you couldn’t see before!

What will happen when you get tuned into your personality and communication style?

A few things will happen.

First, you’ll be able to connect with more people.

Second, you’ll be able to clear away roadblocks that have frustrated you, stressed you out, or have kept you from reaching your goals.

Third, you’ll be able to figure out how to spend more time doing the things you’re good at.

I’m serious.

Getting dialed in to your personality and communication style is the key that unlocks so many other doors.

But it’s too much to explain in one blog post.

I’m walking a group of leaders through a course on this topic right now.

The discussion we’re having and the feedback I’m getting tells me over and over again that this subject is HUGE for people.
