Has this ever happened to you?
You go into a business…let’s say it’s a doctor’s office…and you can tell from the minute you set foot in the door that something isn’t right.
The receptionist is grumpy. You wait a long time. You don’t get your questions answered 100%.
I’m just using a doctor’s office as an example, but you’ve probably had it happen at lots of places…restaurants, the tire place, your kid’s school…the places are interchangeable but the problem is the same.
So what’s the problem?
Do these places have a weird vibe because they’re understaffed, or because the people aren’t paid well enough, or because the boss is a jerk?
Well, maybe…but I think it’s something deeper than that.
I think the problem is that the people at these places don’t know what they’re doing.
Actually, I take that back. Most of them know what they’re doing.
The better way to say it is this: bad results come from people who aren’t clear about WHY they’re doing WHAT they’re doing.
It’s 100% true.
If you know me at all, you know I’m passionate about EXCELLENCE. I could write a book just on that topic because EXCELLENCE is such a powerful force in business and in life.
But you don’t just snap your fingers and POOF! – all of a sudden EXCELLENCE is radiating from everything you do.
That would be cool, but that’s not how it works.
Before you can achieve EXCELLENCE, you’ve got to have a few other things ironed out.
If you don’t take care of these other things, don’t waste your time trying for EXCELLENCE, because you’re going to end up burned-out and frustrated.
So what’s the trick?
How do you keep from getting burned-out and frustrated? How do you set your sights on EXCELLENCE?
How do you make sure that when customers walk in to YOUR business, it’s a great experience for them?
It’s simpler than you might think.
Remember how I said bad results come from people who aren’t clear about WHY they’re doing WHAT they’re doing?
That’s the answer. THAT’S the trick.
You’ve got to know WHY you’re doing WHAT you’re doing.
And I don’t mean, “Because my boss said so,” or “Because that’s what the customer wants.” Not that kind of “why.”
Think deeper than that.
What I’m talking about is your PURPOSE.
What is the fuel that moves you?
THAT’S the “why” I’m talking about.
When we know our purpose…and when we PURSUE our purpose…we put ourselves on the path to EXCELLENCE.
Like I said, EXCELLENCE is a powerful force in business and in life.
The most rewarding choice you may ever make is putting yourself on the path toward EXCELLENCE. And that path starts with knowing and pursuing your PURPOSE.
